More news from Yandex, Russia’s biggest search engine, that highlights the opportunity for more growth in digital in Russia and adjacent markets. One day after announcing a new real-time search partnership with Twitter, the company is reporting Q4 earnings: sales were at $200 million with net income of $71.3 million, both representing growth respectively of 56 percent and 51 percent on the same quarter a year ago.

Dell wants in on ARM server field, says software still has some maturing to do

While the company wouldn’t reveal specific plans, Dell did say it’s interested in entering the server arena with an ARM-based product. Earlier this year HP debuted its first ARMv8-powered server, but Dell seems to think the launch was a tad rushed. As it said during the Q&A session of its earnings call today, CEO Michael Dell said the company had “been experimenting with making an ARM server for over a year … but the software stack just isn’t mature enough yet.” It is, however, intrigued and sees “some interesting opportunities emerging.”

Microsoft says Office for iPad story is based on ‘inaccurate rumors and speculation’ (updated)

The Daily got a lot of folks hopes up earlier today with a rumor that Office would soon be making an appearance on the iPad, but Microsoft is now throwing a bit of cold water on that news. While it’s not exactly an outright denial that such an app is coming, a Microsoft spokesperson has now told The New York Times’ Bits website that “The Daily story is based on inaccurate rumors and speculation,” adding only that it has “no further comment” at this time. ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, however, is further reporting that Microsoft is specifically saying that the screenshot accompanying The Daily’s story is not a real picture of a Microsoft product.

Update: For its part, The Daily is standing by its story. Editor Peter Ha posted a reply to Foley on Twitter, stating that “we did not fabricate either image. A working version of the app was demoed to us by someone at Microsoft.”

Update 2: Microsoft has chimed in yet again on the matter, this time in the form of a tweet that reads: “Great respect for The Daily but regrettably someone is giving them bad info, and that’ll be clear in the ‘coming weeks.’” Yes, they put “coming weeks” in quotes themselves.

Ever felt like Bing wasn’t for retail stores or print journalism? The two latest Windows Phone updates won’t dispel that fantasy, sadly. Bing Vision been update so it can read Barcodes, CD, DVD and Book Covers so you can find out how much cheaper the item in your hand is if ordered online. Image Matching for Newspapers won’t arrive until March, but you’ll be able to snap a photo of an article you’ve seen in a local rag and, if its in Microsoft’s database, you’ll be linked directly to the original version of the article online. That’s brick and mortar retail and newspapers taken care of, we’ll be waiting around to see what’s next on Bing’s hit-list — orphanages, probably.

Another cloud startup is making enhancements to improve the performance and functionality of its services. This one is squarely for enterprises and comes from Huddle, which today is announcing Huddle Sync, a service that promises “intelligent” synchronization of enterprise work files to serve users what they need, when they need it. Huddle is banking on the idea that services like Dropbox will have limited appeal to enterprise users who have to access masses of data; and that IT managers and CIOs will want to exert control on how users access files, and that users will find managing everything themselves a headache. And that companies like Microsoft or IBM will not beat it to the punch in offering this functionality directly.
